Irfan Yar is the Founder of the Afghanistan Security Institute, where his work focuses on security in South Asia, with a particular emphasis on terrorism, radicalism, and violent extremism in Afghanistan and Pakistan. His research also extends to broader security dynamics in the Indo-Pacific region.

He has previously worked with several leading international organizations and think tanks, including the United Nations World Food Programme (Italy), the Global Counterterrorism Institute (USA), and the Macdonald-Laurier Institute (Canada). Irfan has published extensively on terrorism, radicalization, and regional security issues, contributing to both academic journals and major international media platforms.

Irfan holds two Master’s degrees: one in International Affairs from the Norman Paterson School of International Affairs at Carleton University, and another in Area Studies and International Relations from Jawaharlal Nehru University. He also holds a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Political Science from Panjab University.
